teaching at able trade

Thanks for your interest in teaching a class at Able Trade!

Here is how it all works…

Payment:

  • Teachers receive 70% of the tuition costs that come in and the remaining 30% goes to Able Trade for facilitating.

  • Able Trade will collect student registration, tuition, material cost and will pay the teacher within 10 business days of the completed class.

  • No one can attend the class who hasn’t registered and paid in advance without first communicating with the instructor AND the Able Trade admin team.

  • If you want to let a student attend your class for free, you will need to either cover 30% of their tuition cost and 100% of their material cost or ask them to cover your expenses. You are also welcome to ask them to stay after class to help you clean up in exchange for you covering their cost.

Cancellations:

  • You have up till the week before the class to cancel if the number of students is too low to make it worth it. Please email melody@weareabletrade.com if you need to cancel.

  • Students have up to a week before to cancel their registration to get a refund.

Materials:

  • Material cost is separate from tuition and not a part of the split that Able Trade takes. Whatever you decide to charge for the materials Able Trade will collect that with the tuition but then send you 100% of it.

  • You are responsible for purchasing and providing all materials for all your students, then Able Trade will reimburse you for the total cost of materials after collecting the material fee from the students.

Tools:

  • It is important to note that Able Trade is a shared shop with many members. We do our best to always have all our equipment in working order but things happen and it could happen 10 minutes before your class. So you will want to arrive one hour before your class to check all equipment and make sure everything is ready for your students. If a tool is not in working order please call Spencer at. (865)296-0832.

  • All shared Able Trade tools are available to use during classes with teacher supervision. Each student signs a liability agreement upon registration and we expect the teacher to provide ample training before students use any equipment.

  • If your class requires hand tools please list everything needed and communicate with Able Trade how you plan on making sure you have enough of these tools for your class. Able Trade has some available tools but if we don’t have everything you need, inform us and we can work together to make sure you have enough. For example if you have the tools and are willing to let students use them for free then great. If not then you can tell students to bring their own or rent them from you. There are many options but you will need to make sure in advance that you are prepared.

  • At the end of your class you will need to return all machines to neutral.

Set up and Clean up:

  • You are responsible for the set up and clean up of every class. Able Trade will have the general area ready for you but you will need to set up chairs, and whatever else you need for your specific class. At the end of your class please make sure the class area is clean and ready for the next one.

Safely:

  • You are responsible for making sure your students wear proper clothing and safety gear for your class.
